In executive-level succession, he specializes in identifying high-potential leaders and developing them from ready later to ready now. Most of his personal consulting work is with CEOs and other C-level executives. His counsel is highly regarded among organizations spanning diverse sectors such as real estate, luxury retail, education, financial services, chemicals, business services, and biotechnology.
Derek is also passionate about scalable succession and talent planning. He has led a team in developing a next generation executive assessment and succession planning platform for generating and organizing powerful talent analytics, as well as managing succession plans and leadership development programs. He is passionate about democratizing objective assessment and succession to give diverse leaders opportunities early in their careers.
Derek writes for the Harvard Business Review and Psychology Today, where he shares insights on leadership and organizational dynamics. An accomplished author, he recently published the book ""Overcoming Bad Leadership in Organizations,"" which helps talent management professionals address toxic and ineffective leadership. He is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics ranging from succession planning in the C-suite to HR technology and innovations in executive assessment. He is a member of the Society for Consulting Psychology (SCP), Society for Industrial Organizational Psychology (SIOP), and on the board of the SIOP Professional Practice Series, a publication for organizational scientists and executives.
Derek's holds an MBA from Indiana University and a PhD in business psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
