Dr. Joy Nissen is a psychologist and seasoned executive passionate about integrating hands-on knowledge with best practices from behavioral sciences to drive meaningful change. During her tenure as President of a premium baby gear company, Joy led teams domestically and internationally, building expertise around product and brand marketing, sales, customer service, budget management, cross-cultural communication, supply chain, and human resources. In the span of six years, Joy successfully grew the North American business from $0 to $30 million USD.
Prior to joining AIIR full time, Joy worked at The Vanguard Group. As an internal coach and leadership consultant at Vanguard, she supported executive and high-potential leadership development, with a focus on talent assessment and one-to-one coaching. She also implemented measurement strategies to gauge the impact of leadership and coaching programs, and consulted on broad-scale leadership development and talent management initiatives.
As a coach and facilitator, Joy leads with empathy and curiosity. She believes that individuals have an innate capacity for growth, and takes a collaborative, solutions-focused, and insight-oriented approach in all her work. Her specializations include interpersonal conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, executive presence, stress management, values-guided action, along with unique expertise in multi-generational family businesses. Joy's process is rooted in creating environments where people feel safe to explore their thoughts and emotions, enabling them to unlock their true potential.
Joy holds a doctorate in clinical psychology, as well as an MBA, from Widener University. She is also Board Certified in Biofeedback, a technique that teaches individuals to better understand and manage their physiology to improve mental and physical health. In her free time, Joy enjoys traveling, going to Pilates classes, and spending time with her husband and two children.
