Opt-in for system outage alerts from AWS

Members of the development team can be enrolled into alerts from AWS for when the application becomes unavailable.

Enrollment

  1. Contact the project lead via Slack or Email
    1. Request to be added to the application outage notifications
    2. Include your cell phone number with country code
    3. Confirm that you agree to receive these text messages
  2. Once enrolled, you will receive a confirmation SMS message
    1. Verify your phone number by following the instructions on the confirmation message
  3. To remove your number from notifications, contact the project lead via Slack or Email requesting to stop receiving application outage SMS messages

Messages

  1. Only automated messages from AWS Health Checks will be sent when the system becomes unavailable
  2. Frequency: On-demand; Outage events occur rarely (less than 1x per month)
  3. Sample Message:
    CloudWatch Alarm | aiir_cz_prod_api_alarm_slack2 | us-east-1 | Account: 317279890596 | Threshold Crossed: 1 out of the last 1 datapoints [1.0 (14/10/25 11:18:00)] was less than the threshold (2.0) (minimum 1 datapoint for OK -> ALARM transition).
  4. Check with your wireless carrier for charges related to receiving SMS messages.
